ELIZA'S NEW PAINTINGS IN PEMBROKESHIRE
Harbour Lights Gallery is a must-visit place, and that's not just because it's situated in the beautiful harbour village of Porthgain. Harbour Lights specialises in exhibiting the best of the Welsh art scene and joint owner Katie Davies really does love the artwork that she sells there.
New paintings from Eliza Brown arrived in Pembrokeshire this week and we caught a couple of shots whilst Katie's head was down. Don't say anything - she hates having her photo taken!
RAINED OFF? NEVER!
Even though we know he's a notorious sun-seeker, Martyn Jones admits that he really doesn't mind the rain either. It just means that he'll be holed up in his garden studio for a while ... and none of us are arguing with that... Just look at the results!

Peter Kotka is bang on trend at the Alexander Gallery in Bath today. His fabulous still life oil paintings look good enough to eat - and on World Chocolate Day they are, predictably, attracting enormous attention at the prominent George Street gallery!

A painting without a frame is a cake without icing, and an artist can spend a lifetime trying to find the right framer. Which is why we treasure the talents of Kelvyn Cross.
His delightful studio is tucked away in Gadlys Lane in the historic seaside town of Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey. Kelvin is an artist/framer with instinct. Art college training has given him an insight into what's 'right' for a painting.

had been made.

Eliza Brown : Seattle bound
It's common knowledge that Eliza Brown is a great traveller; she searches out inspiration across the whole of Wales and England. She welcomes the changing seasons and vistas and is just as at home on a canal towpath as sitting on a rock in the Irish Sea - but now her life is about to take a dramatic turn. In just a matter of weeks our mixed-media artist will be taking a one-way flight with her family to the USA.
It isn't goodbye for Eliza because she'll continue to paint for our galleries in the UK and with the stunning Pacific coastline just waiting to be captured by her paintbrush, we can look forward to a new and even more vibrant era of Eliza Brown paintings.

Greg's Place
During her career, Angela Wakefield has produced some of our most enduring representations of contemporary urban landscapes both here and in the USA. However, her latest commission presents an exciting challenge rather closer to home.
When the University of York made plans to celebrate Greg Dyke’s eleven years as Chancellor they decided that commissioning a painting would be the best way of showing their appreciation. It's no secret that Greg is not only a keen admirer of the work of American artist, Edward Hopper, but is also a great fan of Angela's paintings. So, his wife, Sue, felt that a piece by Angela Wakefield would be an excellent choice.
She was approached by the Chancellors department of the university, and was told that they were planning to unveil a new outdoor community space on 27 October, supported by Greg Dyke during his final year in office.
The actual painting is going to be of ‘Greg’s Place’. The new area will offer an innovative space to host and view art installations, open air cinema, pop-up activities and performance for students and visitors alike, whilst providing a focal point for Open Days and Graduation days,
Angela and her husband Phil recently spent a memorable couple of hours at Heslington Hall, North Yorkshire with Greg.
‘Greg is extremely charming & charismatic,’ says Angela.’He said that he would be visiting my studio in Ribchester soon.’
The ex-Chancellor would like to give the artist as much creative freedom for the commission as possible, and was keen to hear her ideas as to how she would capture the spirit of the place. He took a very keen interest in Angela and her work and was interested to know more about Bee Mill.
Angela Wakefield's initial thinking for the commission is to capture the diverse range of students, their friendships, interactions and natural behaviour within the grounds. Also, there was talk of returning at twilight to capture the atmosphere at night, when the lights react on the surface of the lake, or when there is something a little more dramatic in terms of light and perspective.
Part of Angela’s process is to use her imagination to bring together various elements, incorporating several photographic references, memories and sketches in order to create a unique and original work.

Martyn Jones seems to be making quite a show of himself in Ludlow at present! Bebb Fine Art have just taken delivery of a further two fantastic paintings to add to their collection.

Eliza Brown - stuck up?
She likes it that way. With her latest artworks increasing in demand Eliza is mostly to be found up to her elbows in glue and paper. EB's vibrant mixed media paintings are made up of hundreds of tiny pieces of ripped-up paper and glue, and she readily admits that the sticky part of the artistic process is probably her favourite.
