ALONE ON ANGLESEY

Sion McIntyre is fast gaining a reputation as a truly plein air artist. Living on the wild and beautiful South West coastline of Anglesey, he captures the changing seasons as they happen before his eyes: the landscapes and seascapes from tranquil to stormy, drab to effervescent.

For his latest exhibition at the Albany Gallery Sion has searched out secret coves and forgotten stone cottages; his lonely hours perched precariously on rugged cliff tops bring us previously unseen views across the divide between Anglesey and the mainland of North Wales.

‘My paintings for Spring 2016 reflect the ever changing winter light which sometimes shimmers, pale across the open sea, reflecting the hint of a winter sun ; sometimes the wildness whipped up by cold and stormy seas – or the stark silver white sharpness of the moon casting its mantle across the blackness of a midnight seascape.

ELIZA BROWN ... CATCH HER IF YOU CAN

Eliza Brown's feet have hardly touched the ground since the turn of 2016. When she's not walking beaches and canal towpaths or climbing in the hills with her family - she's in the air, flying between Manchester and the US.

Incredibly, she still finds time for her studio! No matter where Eliza travels her heart is firmly planted between the North West of England and North Wales; her love for this very special part of the UK is abundantly clear in her choice of subject.

She is currently exhibiting work at the Albany Gallery in Cardiff in the Little Picture Show and is busy preparing for their Summer Show which runs from June 23rd - August 3rd,  2016.

Summertime? Martyn Jones can't wait!

White Beach, on Anglesey, is one of Martyn Jones' favourite locations.
He is content to brave all weather conditions just to capture a moment in time with his watercolour palette.

But, as everyone who knows him will be all too aware, he is counting down the days until he can descend the steep and winding cliff path to the sequestered stretch of white pebbled coastline.

The open views across the crystal clear waters of Irish Sea are spectacular and it's there that Martyn finds inspiration for his abstract seascapes.

THE - PANES - AN ARTIST MUST GO THROUGH!

“I love to paint windows,” says Angela Wakefield. “They reflect the world outside whilst they mostly conceal what is happening behind them. Whether I’m painting a row of shops in Manchester city centre or the fleeting reflections cast by a bright red London Transport bus ... I think about the people behind the glass.”

As a modern, urban landscape artist it's important to Angela to engage with the spirit of the subject, the rhythm of city life and the underlying intensity of the human presence which inhabits the streets and buildings that she paints.

“Hundreds of office windows from the towering New York skyscrapers gradually peer down and evolve onto my canvas,  and I find myself wondering … what’s going on in the darkness of those rooms? People’s lives might be unfolding - work or play, happiness or misery - who knows what? But it’s all happening in there.”
